Online manga Reading Trends

A research in field of online manga reading trends on 2010 to 2011. Most of manga sites have shown that top 3 manga are Naruto, Bleach, and One Piece. While others manga are almost as popular as the top 3, such as Skip Beat, KissxSis, and Air Gear.

Naruto first released was on March 3, 2000, the Naruto manga currently has 55 volumes and 544 chapters. The series’ length and popularity is comparable to that of Dragon Ball, another popular action/martial arts-oriented shonen manga, have greatly influenced Naruto.

Since its creation, Naruto has spawned a large number of manga sites that contain detailed information, guides, active forums, and free reading. Some of the first and most popular sites targeted at English speaking audiences were established shortly after the first English manga volume was released in August of 2003 – WootManga.

While Bleach, has been serialized in the Japanese manga since August 2001. The volumes of Bleach manga have sold more than 500 million, and become the top of manga sales in United States. Bleach manga series have been published in since 2001. The first volume was released on January 5, 2002, and as of December 2010, 48 volumes have been released.

One Piece, started as three one-shot stories entitled Romance Dawn, which would later be used as the title for One Piece’s first chapter and volume. The first of these short stories was published in August 1996. The second was published in the 41st issue of Shonen Jump in 1996.

Several scanlation and fansub groups translated the series and made it available for free download on the internet. Scanlators however left their credit by watermarking the series usually on right bottom. Some of them clearly stamp their logo which to represent their hard work.

Based on the traffic which gathered from one of manga scanlation site, WootManga, the most viewed manga online taken from January 2010 to January 2010 is Naruto series with approximately 320,000 page views alone, monthly. While the second one with nearly 300,000 that is Bleach manga series, it has reported that Bleach manga series shown the most increase in percentage of new readers in 2011. On the third rank, One Piece, has an approximately 280,000 loyal readers, 23% of new readers alone in 2011.

By showing this research in online manga trend, it can be conclude that most of loyal manga reader have their same interest, which means Naruto’s manga lover would have choose Bleach series, One piece series, and vice versa, as reported by the researcher – WootManga.
